Leading Me On

I watch her get closer to me, her hand in her boyfriend's. Quickly moving my eyes in front of me and deciding in the favour of a pack of gum, I set myself in front of it. From the corner of my eye, I observe them walking closer, still. My heart beats and my palms start sweating.
They stop. Her eyes linger on me.
"What?" the boy asks.
Amelia shakes her head, still glaring at me. I gulp down the lump in my throat, hoping she didn't see the way I was watching her, I grab the pack of gum from the shelf, sliding it into my pocket.
I turn my back to them and slowly make my way towards the door of the store. Please stop me. Please stop me. This better be worth it.
I hear my name.
Suppressing the smile fighting to get on my face, I turn around, slowly. She scowls at me. I narrow my eyes a little, glaring at her.
"What?" my voice comes out softer than intended. She still winces, though. My insides move satisfied.
"Aren't you gonna pay for it?" she asks cautiously.
I watch her. She still has the same electrifying blue eyes. Her hair is starting to lose the highlights that she let her sister dye in during the summer, though. Her lips are still as plump as the last time I saw her... They've probably been kissing his. Not mine.
Managing the coldest look I can give her, I shrug, burying both my hands into the pockets now. My finger brushes the pack of gum in the left one.
"I don't know what you're talking about," I reply.
I turn around and walk towards the exit again, slowing down a bit when I hear her hurrying towards me. I need to give her time to reach me.
Amelia's hands wrap around my forearm, tugging me back towards the shelves, ignoring the suspecting look that the cashier is giving us. I manage a scowl. Her hand is soft and warm against my arm. I might as well just crumble and give up now.
"Put it back," she whispers, her eyes big and pleading, "please."
I shake my head, only to feel her touch for a bit longer.
"Come on, I don't want for you to get in trouble..."
I raise my eyebrows with a slight snort. She moves her eyes onto the ground and lets her hand drop. A disappointment.
"I'm sorry," she whispers.
"For leading me on?" I reply haughtily and gaze back at her boyfriend further along the aisle.
His ebony curls and blue-green eyes complemented the black, leather jacket, making him look almost attractive and dare I say mysterious.
"He seems really nice you know, too bad you're using him to hide," I commented.
I turn around and walk away. I've been looking for an excuse to talk to her, again. I've been waiting to feel her touch, hearing her voice say my name, again... I love her. But now I feel more frustrated and needy than before.
Why can't she accept that she's gay.
You thought it was a boy didn't you? It's a girl narrating
